September 18, 2011 Equation For Success

We have discovered a mathematical equation to help your child earn their black belt and become successful in all areas of their life.

Before we get to the equation I would like to comment on a disturbing trend we sometimes hear in our enrollment conferences. Parents saying they want to see if their child will like the program first. Mom and dad LOVE the program but just can’t get Tom to take an active role in the program. Sometimes we get stuck in this problem… If mom LOVES the program than why is the child not doing it?

Here is where the mathematical equation becomes crystal clear…

Your child’s enthusiasm toward his own success, for example, earning a black belt or graduating from High school is ONLY 10%…Why is that? Because he doesn’t know what will be worthy for him. He is too young to know this information. How will a 7 year old know what will benefit him or her later on in life? We as adults are still learning this information… life is always ever evolving so how can our children possibly know this information now?

45% of your child’s success, for example, earning a black belt will be up to the parents? Why? Because your child is depending on you to make the right decisions for them. You will need to provide transportation, help motivate, inspire, explain why you enrolled them in the first place, help them through tough times when they feel like quitting, paying the tuition, helping them to practice jujitsu and the lesson plans, encouraging them to do their best, taking plenty of pictures when they are successful. The list goes on and on…

The other 45% is our WILLINGNESS to want to develop your child to be their best. Making sure our instructors provide the best information, teach the techniques correctly, become good mentors and life coaches, and provide inspiration, motivation, outstanding lesson plans, and exciting classes, have a genuine interest in your child’s success, care about them, really wanting them to prosper. This list goes on and on.

As you can see your child’s success is based on a COMMITMENT between the parents and our instructors to help your child be their outstanding best. If anyone of us doesn’t hold up our end of the commitment your child fails. Your child doesn’t earn a black belt.

So when your child earns their black belt and they look back will they regret their decision for taking the classes? Exactly, they wouldn’t because they didn’t know the feeling of earning their black belt or the information gained in the process. They will not know until they earn their black belt. It’s a process.

Keep your child focused and she/he will be enormously successful.

To your child’s success,

Sensei Shawn Harvey

August 26, 2011 Keeping Our Children Focused

Bermuda Martial Arts – Keeping Our Children Focused

Humans naturally want to try everything and anything, not wanting to miss out on any opportunity. Although this may sound good it’s a fool’s game. Think about this… it is impossible or insane to try to do everything imaginable in the world. Furthermore, it would be very expensive on your pocket book. For illustration, if you have your child in 10 activities costing an average of $100.00 you will be spending $1000.00 per month and running insanely from one activity to the next.

Focus

Now I understand that you are trying to expose your child to different activities but it would be more cost effective to focus on one or two important activities that will have a more lasting effect on your child’s future. Therefore, spending that $1000.00 per month on one or two programs that your child can really focus on and master. And your life as a parent – will be less stressful because you are no longer running from one activity to the next.

Keeping our children focused is very important to their success or failure.

When it comes to martial arts training at Bermuda Small Circle Jujitsu Leadership Academy your child’s enthusiasm toward earning their black belt is only 10%. Why?

I am glad you asked…

You see… 45% of the enthusiasm comes from the parents helping to keep the child motivated, focused, paying for the tuition for the classes, transportation to classes, helping the child read their lesson plans and encouraging their child to practice martial arts techniques at home.

The other 45% is the Bermuda Small Circle Jujitsu Leadership Academy’s instructors showing a keen interest in truly developing your child. For example, making sure your child is receiving personalized attention, motivation, inspiration and teaching leadership skills. Essentially, really caring about your child’s personal success.

Therefore, choosing an activity for our children is really a parent decision (Don’t leave this important decision to your children) and then finding the right team to help your child become a success. To keep your child focused choose one or two activities and close the door on all the other distractions.

Priceless wisdom…

August 19, 2011 Is Your Child Ready For Martial Arts?

Martial arts can be taught for recreational purposes, competition or sport. But what most parents may not fully appreciate is that martial arts can be taught solely for survival.

When martial arts are taught for survival only – points in a martial arts tournament doesn’t matter here.  Teaching our children how to survive when we (the parents) are no longer on this earth is a huge topic of conversation. What tools will they need to survive in this new economy? What skills will they need to acquire to achieve this?

A good martial arts school will teach your child proven principals and philosophy that has been around for thousands of years. Also a good martial arts school will teach your child respect for himself, respect for others, goal setting, focus and listening skills that will improve school grades.

Therefore, when is the best time to put your child in martial arts classes? Answer…As soon as possible. Don’t wait until your child is a teenager because it will be harder to change their habits… not impossible but harder.

An old Chinese story… When a bamboo stick is young it can bend, however, when the bamboo stick is old when you bend it…it snaps!

The earlier you place your child in a good martial arts school the stronger your child’s foundation will be. A good martial arts school is a perfect parenting partner and will reinforce all the information you want your child to learn.

Until next time have a great week!

August 12, 2011 Education and Martial Arts

Parents how can martial arts training help your child improve their grades and quality of life?

When martial arts is taught correctly it will combine cognitive skills with physical skills. When we teach focus in martial arts we can teach how that same focus used to kick a focus mitt will be the same focus needed in school. Most children don’t fully understand focus if lectured to only however, combining that with a physical attribute they will have a much better understanding of what this feeling is.

Grades are improved with a combination of personal development and leadership skills. A great martial arts school will focus on this with a great academic curriculum.

Parents have you ever said this comment before?

What was he thinking? How could she? If you find yourself wondering what your teen was thinking, the answer may be “not much.” Kids often make snap judgments based on impulse, especially when situations come up quickly, leaving teens with little time to sort through the pros and cons.

A good martial arts school will teach your child decision making skills and the reasons why they need to choose their friends wisely.

Education and Martial Arts go hand in hand and must be taken more seriously in your arson to help raise highly intelligent and goal oriented children…

Until Next… Let’s do great things!

August 10, 2011 Going it Alone…

During hard economic times we have a natural tendency to cut back on our activities. We have a knack for underestimating certain activities and feel that we don’t need any help in accomplishing those goals. Health and exercise is always underestimated because it always seems that we can wait still sometime later or we can go it alone to accomplish this. (Bad health only comes to old people idea… I got time I’m young).

More and more young people have diabetes, cardio vascular problems, high blood pressure problems, high cholesterol the list goes on…

If you ask any person who is fighting cancer or a life threatening ailment whether they would trade health for money the answer would be… Hell no! So why do we underestimate the importance of health and why are we so reluctant to pay huge amounts of money for our health and well-being?

One word procrastination…we associate exercise and healthy lifestyle with pain and therefore want and easier path which is usually doing nothing…that’s more fun! However, exercising regularly will keep many sicknesses away.

Question, would you sign a contract before you fully understood all the terms? Some people have hence why their lives are all screwed up (Going it alone). But most people like you would seek advice and direction first.

True success begins when you seek advice and direction. Most people underestimate the power of specialized knowledge from a coach or mentor. When you train yourself you are limited to your own mind – no one else to hold your feet to the fire when you don’t believe in yourself. When you train yourself it is very difficult to stay motivated and you also have limited resources to depend upon. Therefore failure is imminent.

Have you heard the saying…”It takes a village to raise a child” this means seek help from people who have more knowledge on the subject then you.

It’s a proven fact that all professional athletes and successful people have coaches and mentors because they have access to specialized knowledge and someone to hold their feet to the fire to root out procrastination.

When we speak of health most people think of exercise, how fit they are… yes we do need exercise to keep our bodies healthy but true health and fitness lies with a healthy spirit, a healthy mind, and a healthy body.

So as you can see this important journey should not be taken alone… your health and success should be your primary concern because you only have one shot at getting it right!

360 Success Systems is a coaching program to help you succeed in all three areas, mind, body and spirit. Visit www.360SuccessSystems.com for more information.

Your future depends on it…
